Minco is an engineering firm first and foremost, and in fact our Engineering department consists of about one-sixth of our 650 employees. Because of this, we always take time to observe National Engineer’s Week (NEW), which falls on February 18-22 in 2019.
Sensor leads often live in pretty tough neighborhoods. Physically, they may have to negotiate tight corners, sharp edges, vibration, and impacts of various sorts. Electrically, they may be surrounded by all sorts of components and wiring operating at significantly higher voltages than the sensors.
Safety and quality are critical in virtually all industries, but particularly so when lives are at stake, such as in the aerospace industry. Minco has made a major commitment to the aerospace industry and supplies components for a variety of applications in both air and space.
There’s no doubt about it, the engineering world is rife with obscure jargon and technical terminology. Even engineers might scratch their heads if it’s a term from outside their specialty. Not only are a lot of these terms simply unfamiliar, sometimes a word means one thing in one industry and something else altogether in a different one.
It takes three things to start a fire: oxygen,
fuel, and ignition. Unless you’re in a controlled atmosphere, there’s always plenty of oxygen in the air around us. And in many industrial settings, fuel—flammable gas or liquid or finely divided flammable powders or fibers—is readily available in the products they make or use. Such operations go to great lengths to contain these dangerous fuels, but the critical factor that must be controlled is sources of ignition.
