    Better reliability: Crimp or Solder?

    For a highly reliable connection in a mostly static application, is it better to use crimp pins or soldered pins for a critical application; i.e. aerospace, hospital, etc?  Also, I'd like to hear what anyone thinks about which process is least likely to mask defects with intermittent continuity.  I have not had much success searching the web on this subject.

    It's been my experience that crimp contacts make great inexpensive connections, but for reliability I'd go with a soldered pin. Can't say I've had much trouble with intermittent continuity with either method but much of that has to do with the quality of the attachment joint. A poorly placed crimp contact could give intermittent contact but a bad solder joint can do the same. Soldered connections (pins) are significantly more common in aerospace applications than crimps.
