    Rigid Flex construction?

Is it possible to have a rigid flex where a PWB with buried flex is attached to a different PWB with buried flex and each PWB has a different layer stackup and different copper thickness. I was told that both boards have to be identical in stackup when using buried flex. Is it not possible to have an unbalanced design?
