    Explosion proof & intrinsically safe

Is it safe to locate a 110VDC solenoid valve with explosion proof enclosure in a class 1 area.

Solenoid valves are outside of the scope of Minco expertise in the field of explosion proof requirements. As such, you really need to contact the solenoid valve manufacturer to determine ultimate acceptability of such a design.

Housings that are rated explosion proof are designed to contain the ignition of any hazardous atmosphere within the enclosure without propagating a flame. There are different ratings as to what classes of hazardous atmosphere enclosures are certified to protect against.

The 110VDC device could impact a rating since it can short to the enclosure and potentially create an igniting spark beyond the boundaries of the enclosure. That makes it important to get feedback from the component provider and possibly additional clarification from a certifying body on the requirements they have to carry such a rating.
