    Greetings, the list,

I'm new here, and I'm designing my first flex circuit.  I will have several questions, but I will deal with them all separately.

I'm making a three layer board, type rigid-flex.  The outer two layers both have SMT components, and are rigid.  The inner layer is flex and carries all of the interconnect traces.  Both the top and bottom layers are made of three discrete 'boards' that are connected only by the inner layer.  Is this possible to build?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Michael,

It sounds like you are describing a standard 3 layer rigid-flex, and yes, it can be easily fabricated.  There are many factors besides the material stack up that can affect the manufacturing process and costs, so more information would be helpful in determining if you have a solid design. So far, there appear to be no challenges.
