Unique Stator Sensor Install Requires Ingenuity
Problem: A motor manufacturer mounts stick-type stator sensors in the windings by inserting the stick in the slot, leaving about 2.5 inches extending out of the end turn, bending the stick around the end turn an lacing the RTD and leadwires in place. Understandably, they encountered a problem with strain on the element wire and cracking of the epoxy glass body material.
Solution: The solution needed to accommodate their installation method was to place long transition tabs between the element wire and the lead attachment and a thin 0.020" epoxy glass material in this flexed region of the stick. The transition tab and integral calibration tab are etched in copper.
